Editorial Product Review:

Item Description:
The National Geographic Foundation has had a century long commitment to promoting natural conservation. Since 1888 they've inspired people to care to about the planet. This highly efficient design allows you two options for decreasing your energy consumption. You can either rely entirely on solar power or add compact fluorescent light when you need it. The solar panel on the top powers four long-lasting (up to 50,000 hours) L.E.D. lights. Because the L.E.D. lights are lit automatically by a light-sensing switch, they offer dusk-to-dawn security light that is ideal for entry areas. Black finish. Patent applied for. Includes L.E.D. lights and one 4 watt E-27 compact fluorescent bulb. 10 1/4' high. 6' wide. Extends 7 3/4' from the wall. Back plate is 6' high, 4 1/2' wide.

Customer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Just as I had hoped
I am new to solar, mostly because those poorly lit blue tinted pathway lights you see in peoples yards leave me feeling cold. Well, I got the energy efficiency bug and as part of my energy downgrade I purchase two of these hybrid lights for either side of the garage door. The lights are metal and well constructed. The glass panels feel more like plastic to me than glass but that doesnt bother me. The bulb is 4 watts, but with those new energy saving bulbs the output is equal to 25 watts. The lights look just a little undersized compared to other garage lights. The instructions are pretty good however, they say to remove cover and switch to "on", but there is no switch in mine so I just put it back together. I am assuming they redesigned it , but if someone does find the switch e-mail me at [...]

A big concern for me, besides not loving solar lighting is that these are under the eves of my house and probably don't get much sun. Even though I don't think I'm getting all of the benefit from the solar panels I have to say that these lights are attractive and give off a clean white light. I honestly prefer them to the previous 60 watt bulbs I had there. The light is a little softer, but still bright and clean enough to illuminate the area.

I am pleased with these and would buy them again. My husband who was completely against these lights likes them just for their style and light output.

Electronics Reviews

Newegg.com is offering the Plantronics Voyager 855, which pulls double duty as a Bluetooth headset and wireless stereo earbuds, for $57.99, shipped.

On paper, the Mio DigiWalker P550 looks to be an attractive gadget for the mobile professional, combining the capabilities of a PDA and GPS into one device. However, its poor battery life and subpar navigation skills tell a different story.

Though it won't appeal to the masses quite yet, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a nice, portable device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it has some worthy upgrades.

Though it's expensive, the Sony VAIO VGN-TX670P delivers a great combination of business and entertainment features, long battery life, and unparalleled connectivity in an incredibly ultraportable package.
